About Steven H. Griffin

Steven H. Griffin is a Partner at Downstream Energy Group based in Jonesboro, Arkansas, United States, North America. Steve grew up in the petroleum, banking, and real estate industries and got his start in the petroleum sector with his family. His father, Ruben Griffin, began the family’s wholesale petroleum business, Griffin Petroleum, in the 1950s. The business grew in the 1960s and 1970s providing fuel to both wholesale customers and retail customers in northeast Arkansas. As any child of a business owner, Steve worked in every facet of the business growing up: he drove trucks, delivered fuel & oil, worked at the service stations and in the warehouse, and tended to the back-office duties. In the 1970s the Griffins expanded into banking as well as real estate. Steve’s formal business career began in 1982, where he started as an associate with TJ Raney & Sons in the US Bond industry. From there, Steve moved to Vining Sparks Securities where he focused on mergers & acquisitions, working specifically with the banking team on US bank consolidations. In 1989, Steve left the capital markets arena and started Griffin Express—a retail gas & convenience company along with a restaurant chain offering numerous well-known brands. After growing the company for 12 years, Steve and his family decided to exit the business. After the exit, Steve joined a capital markets hedge fund group to participate in the already growing consolidation of the gas & convenience sector. Steve left the capital markets group to develop a new advisory group catering toward mergers & acquisitions in the gas & convenience arena. Alongside his partners, they grew two M&A advisory companies over the past several years which continue to this day. Steve’s daily life is advising M&A transactions and energy capital market disruptor concepts globally. Steve received his B.S. in Business Administration from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. He also attended University of Oxford, St. John’s College with study in 19th Century British Economics and Victorian Novel. Steve now lives in Arkansas with wife Courtney where he leads Downstream Energy Group and its affiliate Downstream Energy Properties. Steve has three children and six grandchildren Specialties: - Mergers and Acquisitions (buy-sell side representation) - Capital Raise and Restructuring (debt and equity) - Retail Operations - Strategic Planning / Advisory - Supply and Vendor Negotiations - Financial Analysis and Valuation
